Porsche ready for bumper weekend of action in Sepang and Suzuka
Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific will be active this weekend as customers take on Thailand Super Series and Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia at Sepang International Circuit, while seven x seven Racing gears up for Round 4 of the 2026 Super GT season in Suzuka.
Thailand Super Series
20/08/2026 Five Porsche cars will tackle the third Thailand Super Series event of the campaign in Malaysia, as the championship reaches the halfway point of 2026 before back-to-back rounds at Chang International Circuit to conclude the season. Henk Kiks and Alessandro Ghiretti currently sit second in the drivers’ standings after four second-place finishes in Buriram and Bangsaen. The duo is just five points behind the championship leaders and will be aiming for a first victory together in the #26 B-Quik Absolute Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R. Sontaya Kunplome competes in the GTM class, piloting the #8 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for this weekend’s action.
A strong trio of entries line up for the marque in the GT4 category, with two from AAS Motorsport. Dechathorn Phuakkarawut and Kantadhee Kusiri currently lead the GT4 drivers’ standings after a victory and second-place finish in Bangsaen, while teammates Thanapattra Sutthisawang and Kmik Karnasuta secured a podium in Race 2, which means they sit third in the championship for the Thai outfit. The third Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport sees Xu Xin and Elias Seppänen make their Thailand Super Series debuts this weekend for R ENGINEERING in the #611 machine. On-track action gets underway on Friday at 14:15 local time (UTC+8) with Free Practice 1. Qualifying begins from 11:55 on Saturday, before the opener starts later that day under the floodlights at 20:30. It’s then lights out for the sixth race of the 2026 season at 12:15 on Sunday afternoon.
Super GT Super GT heads to Suzuka International Racing Course this weekend to contest the fourth round of the 2026 season, with seven x seven Racing aiming to continue its solid start to the campaign, competing in the GT300 category. The Japanese outfit has scored points in nine consecutive races in the championship, including strong fourth and sixth place finishes during the last two events at Fuji Speedway. For this weekend’s action, Sven Müller will be joined by Taichi Watarai, who will make his Super GT debut. He won both the 2025 Super Taikyu ST-X category title and the most recent edition of Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East, both with seven x seven Racing. The Japanese driver is also currently leading the Porsche Carrera Cup Japan standings with four rounds to go. Official Practice kicks off the weekend’s on-track action at 09:45 local time (UTC+9), before qualifying later that day gets underway from 15:30. Sunday sees the fourth round of the year begin at 13:30, with the drivers taking on 52-laps of the iconic and unforgiving circuit.
Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia is also in action alongside Thailand Super Series at Sepang International Circuit, as the championship tackles a triple-header in its penultimate event of the 2026 season. Porsche Junior Marcus Amand currently holds the championship lead, but will not be present in Malaysia due to his Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup commitments. This gives the chasing pack, such as Team Porsche New Zealand’s Marco Giltrap and Team WeTrade x Phantom Global driver Rodrigo Dias Almeida, the chance to close the gap on the Franco-Finn. BWT Team Shanghai Yonda instead names Porsche France Junior Macéo Capietto in the #3 Porsche 911 Cup (992.2). He’s currently second in the Porsche Carrera Cup France Drivers’ Championship, having scored four podiums, including a victory, in the four weekends. Reigning Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia champion Dylan Pereira also returns for Absolute Racing following his appearance in Bangsaen, this time in the #88 entry. In the Pro-Am class, Wang Zhongwei leads the way for Origine Motorsport, holding a healthy advantage heading into the final two race weekends, while Roy Tang finds himself in a strong position at the top of the Am category for 610 Racing. Modena Motorsports’ John Shen sits top of the Masters standings, with Jacky Wu (Porsche Own Retail 69 Team) and hometown driver Adrian D’Silva (EBM) still in contention heading into a crucial triple-header. Friday sees the first on-track action with an Official Test Session at 10:00 local time (UTC+8), followed by two Free Practice sessions from 16:45 and 19:40 respectively. Qualifying kicks off Saturday’s running from 11:00, before the opener begins under the floodlights at 19:20. The first of two races on Sunday gets underway at 11:10, with lights out for the longer format of 43 minutes + 1 lap event at 15:30.
Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd.: “It’s going to be a great weekend of action for Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific, with customers in both Sepang and Suzuka. It’s great to see five entries competing across three Thailand Super Series categories and in the Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand, looking to continue their strong form as the championship passes the halfway point at this event. Porsche ARbox Carrera Cup Asia is also in attendance in Sepang, where I’m sure there will be some great racing across the triple-header. In Japan, seven x seven Racing look to continue what has been a solid start to the 2026 season, with Taichi and Sven aiming for a strong result at Suzuka. We’re looking forward to supporting all our customers throughout what will be a hopefully successful few days.”
